  • We begin our Peruvian jungle adventure at the Iquitos City Airport. From there we will move to the Manatee Rescue Center, a refuge where volunteers and biologists will teach us about the work they do to preserve this endangered species.
  • From here we will journey 60 miles to the town of Nauta, the first town ship founded by the Spanish at the Marañón River bank. The trip to Nauta takes about an hour and a half.
  • In Nauta, we will visit the SapiSapi pond where we can see species such as the paiche (largest Amazonian fish), arawana, quelonios (taricaya, charapa), and regional turtle , as well as a brief story at the Centenary Square.
  • From Nauta, we will board Hatuchay Hotel boats and sail towards the junction of the Ucayali and Marañón Rivers, to observe the origin of the Amazon River.Once we arrive at the Lodge, we will receive a warm welcome with a seasonal fruit drink, and a presentation in the Kukama Kukamiria language by a tribe member.
  • You will be invited to go to your rooms to leave luggage and then have lunch.  In the afternoon we will go for awalk where we will identify flora and fauna in the forest surrounding the Lodge. We will return at night to try to locate the demdrobates, tiny poison-dart frogs characterized by their bright colors. We will return to the Lodge for some time to relax before dinner.

  • After breakfast we will go to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve to an area called “Nauta Caño” .During our excursion we will search for pink and gray dolphins near the gorge of the same name. We will also be immersed in the wide variety of flora and fauna the reserve offers. The first thing that will call your attention is how the river water perfectly reflects the sky, clouds, vegetation and large trees along the river banks. Visitors will have the sensation of sailing between endless mirrors, which is why Pacaya Samiria is also known as “the forest of mirrors”.
  • We will also go for a walk through the flooded forests, where we will try to see some primates and sloths. During the journey we can also observe a variety of birds and the traditional Amazonian subsistence fishing practice.
  • Next, we will return to the Lodge to visit the women’s crafts center (seasonal) of the San Jorge community, known for their work with natural Chambira fiber and Wingo or pumpkin carving. You will have down time, followed by dinner. After dinner a guide will invite us to move to a different space to share myths and legends of the Peruvian Amazon.

  • After breakfast we will go hiking through the jungle with a cold lunch, where we can see a variety of timber-yielding trees and birds native to this forest. We will also try to see some primates and mammals as we journey toward a rustic camp to rest in hammocks and, if you desire, to enjoy the refreshing water of a high gorge, where the guide will explain the importance of its existence and the role it plays in the ecosystem.  We will return to the lodge to have some rest and depending on the guest’s itinerary, we will return to Iquitos or continue the tour next day.
  • In the afternoon there will be a presentation about “The Amazonian World View”, in particular the usage of medicinal plants and Ayahuasca, followed by dinner.

  • Immediately following breakfast we will leave for two camping overnights in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Cuenca Yanayacu Pucate, where we register in PV Santo Domingo. (checking point).
  • During this visit we sail on black waters and visit the Veinte de Enero community, where the guide will explain resource management carried out by local groups, palm management, Taricaya and fishery resources. We will once again be immersed in the wide variety of flora and fauna the reserve offers.
At noon we will stop for a while to have a cold lunch.
  • We will then visit the Japón and Plantano lagoons, both with a wide variety of palm trees and beautiful scenery. Next we will arrive in another flooded forest, where we will set up camp. You may choose to take a walk to look for more animals, or you may prefer to cool off in the Yanayacu water.
  • In the evening, we will take an excursion by boat to observe nocturnal wildlife habits, followed by dinner.
  • Reserve activities.

  • After Breakfast return to the lodge. Along the boat trip we will enjoy the view of the beautiful Amazon surroundings or maybe see some animals we did not observe during our way into the reserve. In the jungle we cannot predict anything. We will get to the lodge about midday in order to have lunch and then to get ready to come back to the Iquitos airport or hotel depending on the itinerary.
